The writing style was good Jasmine makes her first appearance!Įnough, the plot was decently interesting, and there were enough ghostie inclusion to keep my inner Casper fangirl alive. I liked my name better.Īnyway, this wasn’t a bad book. Okay, apparently, further investigation on Goodreads has taught me that the town is not called Appleville. What will she find? Is Appleville rotten to its core? However something about the hauntings and ghostie sights makes Hildy journalistic instincts kick up and she takes to investigating just what is really going on in Appleville. When a rival newspaper starts to focus on a haunted house, the entire town takes notice. This story is about Hildy – an aspiring journalist in a small town focused on apples. Doesn’t that sound ridiculously amazing? I thought it was amazing as a kid, and when I went back to it, I expected to be as enchanted by it just the same. It had everything I loved as a kid – a cute romance, a touch of mystery, and a hint of ghosties. This was one of my first books into the YA genre and I remember holding this book in the highest esteem possible – when I remembered it existed. I would rate this book pretty highly, as I enjoyed the plot twists and the surprise ending.Have you ever reread a book from when you were a kid and it surpasses all of the expectations you’ve ever had? It’s better than you remembered and just absolutely amazing? The feels are strong, the romance is swoonworthy, and the characters are super awesome? I would recommend this novel to younger teens, but older teens may enjoy the story as well. Will she successfully peel back all the false layers to expose the core in Peeled, despite all the challenges thrown her way? The story is both realistically spooky and engaging as Hildy attempts to explain and report about all the strange occurrences. In order to find the truth of the whole ordeal, Hildy Biddle starts calling people all over related to the mystery. In addition, a psychic arrives in town and begins putting stories into people’s heads, claiming she was called to the town by the ghosts of the Ludlow house. An attempted break-in is suspected, then a possible murder occurs on the property. Meanwhile, strange things start happening in the town. Hildy Biddle learns what a reporter must do: Ask questions and prove everything. The only problem is that the editor of The Bee seems not to be giving the public the truth, and Hildy Biddle is trying to do just that.Ī new counselor takes over the high school paper, and the reporters receive advice from a professional journalist. And when the Ludlow house in Banesville, their town in Upstate New York, begins to scare the townspeople, both papers try to get the whole story. Their rival newspaper is the local paper, The Bee. Hildy Biddle is a writer for her high school paper, The Core.
